Quality Assurance and Quality Control

Ensuring every medication compounded at Maida Pharmacy is of unquestionable quality is our priority. In addition to strict oversight from the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy, we have gone above and beyond by becoming accredited by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB), a third party giving their seal of approval to compounding pharmacies maintaining and improving the profession’s highest standards.

The Compounding Process

We gather…

First, we gather information. We want to understand the circumstances under which the medication is to be used. We’ll ask what condition the medication is treating, other medical conditions diagnosed, and additional medications taken. Our pharmacists will want to know any allergies or sensitivities so these ingredients can be avoided entirely.

We formulate…

Second, we formulate. We may extrapolate from existing formulations in peer-review journals or use our training in the pharmaceutical sciences to build an entirely unique formulation. Often, it’s a careful combination of the two. This allows patient access to treatment without compromising quality.

We compound…

Next, we compound the medication. This is done following a carefully designed procedure. All ingredients, equipment, and facilities used in the compounding process meet strict criteria put in place by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). Our trusted wholesale partners conduct extensive testing on sourced chemicals guaranteeing all USP criteria is met.

We Review…

Lastly - prior to dispensing the compounded medication - we review the prescription, the formulation, the procedure and assess the appropriate quality assurance measures. The United States Pharmacopeia has in place required quality assurance measures all compounding pharmacies must complete after a medication is compounded. Our accreditation from the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) requires we go above and beyond by performing additional quality assurance measures.
